Thoughts left by those who visited John R. Allison Memorial
John was killed in the final assault on the Thuong Tu Gate of the Imperial Palace in Operation Hue City. I was looking at him when he was struck by AK47 tracer fire, and in the same second he drew his last breath. That was 33 years ago. I think of John in his youth, and am so, so very sorry he missed out on the life it's been my pleasure to enjoy. When I attend our reunions, I look at the empty chair at our memorial table and I picture him sitting there in his greens, with his short military haircut that made his ears stick out so, laughing in his youth. And I cry. I miss him.
